European champions Real Madrid put on another unconvincing display against Viktoria Plzen but did just enough to get a 2-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Spanish giants came into the game on the back of four defeats in five games in all competitions. Karim Benzema and Marcelo scored to ease the pressure on Real Madrid head coach Julen Lopetegui.
Benzema scored with a header from a Lucas Vazquez‘s cross in the 11th minute making it his 57th goal in the Champions League. Marcelo then scored Madrid’s second in the 55th minute with a beautiful chipped finish over Viktoria Plzen’s goalkeeper.
Czech side put on an impressive display and were eventually rewarded with a goal 11 minutes from time when Patrik Hrosovsky fired into Keylor Navas‘ left-hand corner.
Reports suggest Lopetegui may still not survive in the job until Sunday’s Clasico against Barcelona, but the result did at least keep Real level with Roma atop Group G.
