Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has issued a public apology to Nigerian music star Davido and his family following backlash over a social media post that was perceived as a critique of the singer’s parenting.
The controversy began when Martins shared a post addressing the issue of absentee fathers, using a photo of Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama, as a reference point. Although she later clarified that her comments were not directed at Davido specifically, the inclusion of Momodu’s image led many to believe otherwise.
In her apology, Martins stated, “To whom it may concern, my last post was never intended to disrespect Davido or his family. Everyone on social media can attest to the fact that Davido has been an excellent father to all his children. Perhaps I should not have used Sophia’s picture as a reference, and thus, the post has been taken down.”
Martins also extended a personal apology to Davido’s cousin, Clark Adeleke, acknowledging any offense her post may have caused. She emphasized that her original intent was to highlight the broader issue of fathers neglecting their responsibilities, not to single out any individual.
The actress’s apology has elicited mixed reactions from the public. While some commend her for taking responsibility and clarifying her stance, others criticize her for involving herself in matters concerning other people’s families.
This incident underscores the importance of context and sensitivity when discussing personal and family matters on public platforms.
