Janice Combs, Mother of music mogul Sean Combs, has launched a fierce rebuttal against Netflix’s new documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning, condemning several claims as outright false and calling on the streaming platform to retract them.
The series, which premiered on December 2, 2025, delves into decades of controversies surrounding the star, including allegations of violent behaviour, sex trafficking, and misconduct.
In a statement to media outlets, Janice described the docuseries as riddled with “inaccuracies regarding my son’s upbringing and family life,” accusing the producers of twisting past events to mislead viewers and tarnish the family’s reputation. Among the most serious claims she rejects is an allegation from former associate Kirk Burrowes that Sean once struck his mother during a chaotic 1991 promotional event at City College, which tragically ended in a stampede. Janice called the claim “inaccurate and patently false,” describing its inclusion as “outrageous and offensive.”
Janice also pushed back against depictions of herself as an abusive parent. She emphasized that she raised Sean largely on her own, often juggling multiple jobs to provide him with a stable home. She described him as a “respectful and diligent child and teenager” and demanded a public retraction of what she labeled “distortions, falsehoods and misleading statements.”
The documentary has ignited heated debate, particularly as Combs is currently serving a prison sentence for prostitution-related convictions, heightening scrutiny and polarizing public opinion. As his mother defends both her and her son’s reputation, questions continue to swirl over whether the Netflix series delivers a balanced reckoning or veers into a sensationalized hit piece.
