Nigerian entertainer Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, is under investigation by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) following a controversial video in which he allegedly admitted to engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl
In the video, which surfaced on social media, Speed Darlington described an encounter with a minor at a hotel, claiming to have paid hotel staff to replace bloodied sheets. The remarks sparked immediate outrage, leading to calls for legal action and prompting the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to escalate the matter to NAPTIP.
NAPTIP issued a formal summons for Speed Darlington to appear at its Abuja headquarters on May 30, 2025, for questioning. The agency emphasized that failure to comply could result in further legal action.
In response to the backlash, Speed Darlington released a follow-up video claiming that his initial comments were fabricated as part of a publicity stunt to promote his new song. He apologized for any offense caused and stated that he did not intend to offend anyone.
NAPTIP’s Cybercrime Response Team is currently investigating the video and related content, with the agency reiterating its commitment to protecting minors from exploitation.
The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the responsibilities of public figures in the digital age and the potential consequences of using controversial statements for promotional purposes.
