The countdown is on for Saturday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Amavubi of Rwanda, with ticketing, security, and player updates setting the tone for one of Uyo’s biggest football nights.
Ticketing & Security
Fans eager to fill the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium will pay ₦3,000 for VIP seats and ₦1,000 for popular stands, available at designated centres across Uyo from Friday morning.
But the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) isn’t leaving anything to chance. Director of Marketing and Sponsorship, Alizor Chuks, issued a stern warning: “We are declaring total war on ticket racketeers. Every ticket will be scanned at the gates, and anyone caught with fake tickets will be arrested and prosecuted.”
Amavubi Lands in Uyo
The Rwandan delegation, led by newly elected FERWAFA president Fabrice Shema Agoga, touched down at Victor Attah International Airport at 5:28 p.m. on Tuesday. Lodged at the Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, the Amavubi will begin training Wednesday evening at the Nest of Champions practice pitch.
Super Eagles Camp Swells with Stars
The Nigerian squad at Four Points by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene, received a major boost on Wednesday morning with the arrivals of Ademola Lookman, Africa’s reigning Player of the Year, and Panathinaikos forward Cyriel Dessers.
By Wednesday night, five more key names—Victor Osimhen, Christantus Uche, Tolu Arokodare, Samuel Chukwueze, and Raphael Onyedika—were expected to complete the squad.
The Bigger Picture
With both teams eyeing crucial qualification points, Saturday’s showdown promises not just thrilling football, but also a carnival atmosphere powered by passionate fans. For Nigeria, the challenge is clear: defend home turf, harness star power, and keep the World Cup dream alive.
