At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025, Nigerian singer Tems secured the Best African Music Performance award for her track “Love Me JeJe.”

This song, released on April 26, 2024, is the second single from her debut album, “Born in the Wild,” and pays homage to Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 hit.

In her acceptance speech, Tems expressed profound gratitude, stating, “Dear God, thank you so much for putting me on this stage.” She also acknowledged her management team and gave a heartfelt shout-out to her mother, who joined her on stage.

The Best African Music Performance category, introduced in 2024, aims to recognize outstanding African music recordings. Tems’ win underscores her significant contribution to the global appreciation of African music.

This achievement marks Tems’ second Grammy win, further solidifying her presence in the global music scene.

Other nominees in the Best African Music Performance category included Yemi Alade (“Tomorrow”), Asake & Wizkid (“MMS”), Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay (“Sensational”), and Burna Boy (“Higher”).

Tems’ “Love Me JeJe” has been praised for its fusion of Afrobeats and R&B elements, bringing a fresh perspective to the original track. The song’s success highlights the growing global influence of African music and Tems’ role in its rising prominence.
