Members of the Organizing Committee of the US, Canada and Mexico bid to host the 2026 World Cup celebrated as the United States, Mexico and Canada will host the 2026 World Cup after Qatar.
They were chosen ahead of Morocco who were bidding to host the World Cup for a fifth time. 134 votes or 67% of the vote was given to the joint bid as Morocco was given 65 or 33% of the vote. The voting process was done yesterday ahead of today’s World Cup opener.
Despite the situation in the United States, especially with the Trump administration and its rocky relationship with Canada and Mexico, Trump has backed the bid and promised guarantees to meet with FIFA requirements ahead of the tournament.
The World Cup will return to North America with the United States last hosted the tournament from the region in 1994. Mexico has hosted the tournament twice the last in 1986 while Canada has never hosted the tournament last played in the tournament in 1986.
