Tom Cruise Sets Guinness World Record

Tom Cruise has taken his daredevil reputation to stratospheric new heights—quite literally—by earning a Guinness World Record for the most flaming parachute jumps ever performed by an individual.

In true Ethan Hunt fashion, the 61-year-old actor turned up the heat—literally—as he completed 16 fire-laced skydives during the filming of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

In each take, Cruise jumped from a helicopter thousands of feet above the South African wilderness, with a parachute deliberately soaked in fuel and set ablaze before he took the plunge. After plummeting for a few critical seconds through fire and smoke, Cruise would slice away the burning chute mid-air and deploy a backup parachute—landing safely like a true cinematic gladiator.

This jaw-dropping sequence formed the climax of a major aerial battle set high above the Drakensberg mountains. With a 50-pound camera rig strapped to his body, Cruise even managed to capture intense close-up footage during freefall—proving once again that when it comes to pushing the boundaries of film realism, he isn’t just playing a hero—he is one.

Guinness World Records editor-in-chief, Craig Glenday, summed it up perfectly: “Tom doesn’t just play action heroes – he is an action hero.”

Directed by longtime collaborator Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning made its explosive debut at the Cannes Film Festival and has already grossed $389 million globally, locking in its place as the seventh highest-grossing film of 2025.

This record-breaking feat now joins Cruise’s long list of legendary stunts, from his HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) jump in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, to flying real jets in Top Gun: Maverick. With each death-defying sequence, Cruise is not just filming action—he’s redefining what’s possible on screen.

If the mission was to blow minds and make history, consider it accomplished.
