A few weeks ago, the Recording Academy announced the category formerly known as ‘Best World Music Album’ would become ‘Best Global Music Album.’ Burna Boy lost to Anqelique Kidjo when the category was known as ‘Best World Music Album.’
Going down memory lane, Kidjo dedicated her win to him, saying, “Burna Boy is among those young artists that come from Africa that is changing the way our continent is perceived and the way that African music is the bedrock of all music.”
Burna Boy’s win is Nigeria’s first since Sikiru Adepoju won with Planet Drum over 10 years ago. Beyonce‘s video for ‘Brown Skin Girl’ also won for Best Music Video alongside Wizkid, SAINt JHN and Blue Ivy.
