Veteran producer Wale Adenuga has publicly dismissed claims by actor Richard Abiodun Ayoyinka, famously known as Papa Ajasco, that he is facing financial difficulties, calling the reports “misleading and inaccurate.”
The controversy erupted after Ayoyinka suggested in a media interview that, despite decades of playing the beloved television character in Papa Ajasco and Company, he has been struggling financially. The remarks quickly went viral, sparking debates across social media and entertainment circles.
Responding swiftly, Adenuga denied any negligence or exploitation of his cast. He emphasised that the production company has consistently honoured its financial commitments and provides industry-standard remuneration. He described the viral interview as a distortion of the truth and reiterated his appreciation for Ayoyinka’s decades-long contributions to the show’s success.
Adenuga also pointed to Ayoyinka’s extensive career outside the sitcom, noting his over 30 years of service with the Lagos State Government and involvement in cultural initiatives. “Given his career record, the claim of financial struggle does not align with reality,” Adenuga remarked.
The back-and-forth has sparked wider discussions about the welfare of veteran entertainers in Nigeria’s industry. While Adenuga maintains that his production house has upheld fair treatment, the debate underscores the ongoing conversation about how long-serving actors are supported and recognised for their contributions to the nation’s entertainment heritage.
