World Refugee Day

World Refugee Day

by | 20th June 2017

Today, June 20th marks World Refugee Day, which is a day dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world.

It’s a day to show the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees. It also marks a key moment for the public to show support for families forced to flee from their homes.

A #WithRefugees Campaign petition set up for the public to express solidarity with people forced to flee and encourage government to take action was launched in 2016.

The petition asks governments to:

  • Ensure every refugee child gets an education.

  • Ensure every refugee family has somewhere safe to live.

  • Ensure every refugee can work or learn new skills to make a positive contribution to their community.

Some communities dedicate a whole week to encourage people to think about the lives of refugees and the human right to a secure place that one can see as ‘Home’. Today we honor the spirit and courage of millions of refugees worldwide.
