Bigiano Regrets Turning Down Mo’Hits, Don Jazzy’s Offer

Once hailed as the voice behind the club anthem “Shayo,” Nigerian singer Bigiano now finds himself reflecting on a moment that could have redefined his musical journey — a decision he describes as his “biggest career regret.”

In a heartfelt conversation on the Celeb Stopover radio show, Bigiano peeled back the curtains on a missed opportunity from the early 2000s: rejecting an offer from Don Jazzy to join the now-legendary Mo’Hits Records. At the time, Mo’Hits was still taking shape, but Bigiano was laser-focused on pursuing his solo dreams, confident in his path.

“Don Jazzy reached out, but I felt I could do it on my own. Looking back now, that decision probably cost me a lot,” he confessed.

Founded in 2004 by Don Jazzy and D’banj, Mo’Hits would go on to shape the future of Afrobeats, launching a powerhouse roster that included Wande Coal, D’Prince, Dr SID, and Kayswitch. With smash hits and chart-topping albums, the label quickly became a musical dynasty — a movement that not only dominated the Nigerian airwaves but also paved the way for Afrobeats to go global.

For Bigiano, who was riding high on the success of “Shayo” around the same time, the decision to walk a different path seemed justified. But as the Mo’Hits empire flourished and his momentum slowed, the weight of that missed alignment began to settle in.

“If I had joined Mo’Hits, who knows? Maybe I’d be in a different league right now,” he admitted, adding that the structure, influence, and creative energy of the label could have given his career the sustained fire it needed.

Though Mo’Hits Records disbanded in 2012 due to internal tensions — leading Don Jazzy to launch Mavin Records, which continues to mint superstars — the legacy of that golden era remains unmatched in the Nigerian music scene.

Bigiano’s reflection is more than a personal confession; it’s a stark reminder of how a single decision in the entertainment industry can echo across decades. His story resonates with countless artists who, at one point or another, stood at the crossroads of ambition and opportunity.

Still active in music and performing, Bigiano holds his head high, with lessons learned and eyes set on the future. As he continues to rebuild and reconnect with fans, his journey underscores one universal truth in the creative world:

Sometimes, the biggest “what if” isn’t about the song you didn’t release — it’s about the team you didn’t join.
