Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has broken the current Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual”.

On Monday morning, 15th of May 2023, Baci beat the 87 hours 45 minutes record set by now-former Guinness World Record holder, Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who achieved the feat in Rewa, India, in 2019.

Baci’s cooking marathon is currently underway in Lekki, Lagos State, at Amore Gardens, where she intends to set a new record of 96 hours.

Nigerians, including several celebrities, defied the rain to physically cheer up the visibly tired chef in her ongoing record-breaking attempt.

The chef won the inaugural Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021, taking home a grand prize of $5,000.

The cook-a-thon, began on May 11 and will end on May 15. It featured a live-streamed show on multiple social media channels where Hilda will make over 250 recipes.
