Christmas Celebration: FG declares 3 Days Nationwide Holiday

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially designated Wednesday, December 25, 2024 (Christmas Day); Thursday, December 26, 2024 (Boxing Day); and Wednesday, January 1, 2025 (New Year’s Day) as public holidays.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who emphasized that these holidays offer Nigerians a chance to reflect on the core values of love, peace, and unity that the festive season represents.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens to utilize this period to strengthen family and community bonds, fostering harmony across the nation. He also urged Nigerians to engage in acts of kindness and generosity, ensuring that the spirit of the season is experienced by all, especially those in need.

In line with ensuring public safety during the festivities, the government has directed security agencies to maintain heightened vigilance to guarantee peaceful celebrations nationwide. Citizens are advised to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activities promptly.

These public holidays align with Nigeria’s tradition of observing significant religious and cultural events, providing an opportunity for citizens to participate in various activities, including church services, family gatherings, and community events.

As the festive season approaches, the Federal Government reiterates its commitment to the safety and well-being of all citizens and wishes everyone a joyous and prosperous celebration.
