Nigerian street-hop sensation, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has been granted bail by an Upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State.
This comes after he was being charged with criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public disorder, and cyberstalking.
The charges stem from a highly publicized clash between the singer and Fuji music legend, Saheed Osupa.
The drama began when Osupa’s team reportedly flagged one of Portable’s tracks for alleged copyright infringement, resulting in its removal from major streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify. In response, Portable took to social media, posting a video filled with heated insults aimed at the 55-year-old Fuji star. He called Osupa derogatory names and belittled his career, accusing him of sabotage.
The online outburst sparked an immediate backlash from fans, industry colleagues, and the public, prompting Portable to issue a public apology. In a video posted to his social media, Portable acknowledged his short temper and expressed regret for his actions. “My fans, I am a hot-tempered person,” he said. “I spoke my mind, and it’s over. King Saheed Osupa, please forgive me. It was money that almost got between us, I wanted to collect the money, and I heard the song had been removed. That’s why I reacted the way I did. Please forgive me.”
However, despite the apology, the matter took a legal turn, with Osupa pursuing action against the singer. The legal battle culminated in Portable’s arrest, followed by the court granting him bail set at ₦1 million.
The unfolding case has reignited discussions on the responsibilities of public figures, especially in the digital age, and the consequences of their actions on social media. As the legal process continues, fans and observers are keenly watching for further developments, hoping for an amicable resolution that emphasizes professionalism, respect, and accountability in the Nigerian music scene.
