Falz Rejects Marriage Pressure From Family

Nigerian rapper and actor Falz has candidly addressed the persistent inquiries about his marital status, revealing both familial and societal pressures he faces regarding marriage.

In a recent interview with Naija 102.7 FM, Falz shared that his father, renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, frequently expresses concern over his single status. “If I greet my dad good morning, he would say the morning will be good if you were married,” Falz recounted, highlighting the daily reminders from his parents. Despite this, he firmly stated, “No one can pressure me into getting married, not even my dad”.

Further elaborating on his reservations, Falz appeared on the Unpack podcast, where he delved into the complexities of marriage as a public figure. He admitted to being uncertain about what an ideal relationship would look like for him, especially under the scrutiny that comes with fame. “Being an artiste, being in the public eye, is it going to be public or coded? Or do you want to come out as a famous couple? I think these things are difficult to navigate,” he explained.

Falz also revealed that he has been single for an extended period, with his last serious relationship dating back to his university days. He emphasized the challenges celebrities face in maintaining healthy relationships, noting, “This is one of the biggest reasons entertainers do not get to have healthy family life. It is tough. It will always come out one way or the other”.

Despite the external pressures and internal uncertainties, Falz remains resolute in his decision to wait for the right moment and person. He concluded, “I might do it and run it coded,” suggesting a privacy preference should he choose to marry in the future.

Falz’s openness about his personal life offers insight into the often-overlooked challenges celebrities face in balancing public expectations with private desires.
