Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji is set for a long-awaited return to television with a role in the BBC drama Wahala, marking her first major series appearance in years and reigniting excitement across African and global film audiences.
The six-part series, adapted from Nikki May’s acclaimed novel and directed by BAFTA nominated filmmaker Theresa Ikoko, is set in London and follows the intertwined lives of four Nigerian-British women as friendship, ambition, identity, and buried secrets begin to collide.
Genevieve’s inclusion in the cast has been widely celebrated as a major screen comeback, coming decades after her early television appearance in the classic Nigerian soap Ripples, where she began her acting journey as a child.
The ensemble cast also features Adelayo Adedayo, Cush Jumbo, Susan Wokoma, and Deborah Ayorinde, bringing together a strong lineup of international and diaspora talent to tell a story rooted in culture, conflict, and self-discovery.
Industry observers say Wahala is one of BBC Studios’ most ambitious multicultural dramas in recent years, reflecting a growing push for more diverse storytelling and stronger African representation in mainstream global television.
Genevieve, who has largely maintained a low screen profile in recent years while focusing on select projects and production work, is reported to have been drawn to the series by its compelling narrative and creative direction.
Her return has sparked widespread buzz across Nollywood and international entertainment circles, with fans viewing the project as a significant milestone in her evolving global career.
