Lagos Hosts Africa’s Inaugural Mixed-Team Table Tennis Championship

Lagos is currently hosting the first-ever mixed-team table tennis tournament in Africa, known as the Senator Abiru Mixed Team Table Tennis Championship.

Held from October 31 to November 2, 2024, this groundbreaking event is hosted at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Sports Hall in Surulere.

Organized with a focus on youth empowerment and regional sports promotion, the tournament has drawn teams from across West Africa, including participants from Togo, Benin Republic, and Ghana.

Senator Tokunbo Abiru, who spearheaded this initiative through his foundation, highlighted that the tournament reflects Lagos’s commitment to positioning itself as a premier sports hub on the continent.

It is part of a broader agenda to elevate the local sports scene and inspire youth engagement through table tennis and other competitive event
