Tears And Triumph: Chioma Akpotha Shines Bright At AMVCA11

It was an emotional night of celebration and recognition at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) as Chioma Akpotha’s name echoed through the hall, sealing her win for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Overwhelmed with emotion, the veteran Nollywood star fought back tears as she ascended the stage, visibly moved by the honor bestowed upon her for her stunning performance as Queen Amaka in Seven Doors.

Set in 18th and 19th-century Nigeria, Seven Doors—a richly woven historical drama by Femi Adebayo—dives deep into the intricacies of power, heritage, love, and betrayal. Akpotha’s portrayal of the strong yet vulnerable Queen Amaka was nothing short of cinematic brilliance, a role that not only showcased her depth as an actress but reignited admiration for her decades-long dedication to the craft.

Before the big night, Chioma had already captured hearts with her humility. In a touching Instagram post following her nomination, she wrote:
“To the giver of all good gifts… GOD THE FATHER! Beyond grateful and feeling truly blessed for this nomination and recognition.”
She went on to reflect on her journey, reminding her fans that every role is a shared journey—one she doesn’t walk alone.

The film itself was a major contender at this year’s AMVCA, racking up an impressive 11 nominations, including Best Indigenous Language (West Africa), Best Lead Actor, and Best Director. But it was Akpotha’s win that turned out to be one of the most emotional highlights of the night, earning a standing ovation and leaving many in the audience teary-eyed.

The 2025 AMVCA, held on May 10, was more than a celebration of talent—it was a reaffirmation of the power of African storytelling. And as Chioma Akpotha clutched her award, eyes brimming with gratitude, it was clear that her reign as one of Nollywood’s finest had just reached a new, glorious chapter.
