Nigeria’s dominance on the global music scene continues to gather momentum as Afrobeats stars Tems, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Asake earned major nominations at the 2026 BET Awards.
Their feats have reinforced Africa’s growing influence in international entertainment.
Tems emerged as one of the standout African acts on this year’s nominations list, securing three major nods. The Grammy-winning singer was recognised in the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist category, earned a BET Her nomination for her emotionally charged single First, and also picked up a Viewer’s Choice nomination for Raindance, her collaboration with British rapper Dave.
Wizkid and Asake also made a powerful statement after earning a nomination in the Best Group category, reflecting their successful collaborations and strong global appeal over the past year.
Burna Boy, widely regarded as one of Africa’s biggest music exports, added another international milestone to his decorated career with a Best Collaboration nomination for his contribution to Gunna’s hit track WGFT.
The latest nominations further underline Afrobeats’ transformation from a continental sound into a worldwide cultural movement, as Nigerian artists continue to command attention on some of the entertainment industry’s biggest stages.
This year’s BET Awards ceremony is set to hold on June 28 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, with comedian and internet personality Druski announced as host for the highly anticipated event.
On the international front, Cardi B leads the nominations pack with six nods, while Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist closely trail with five nominations each.
For Nigerian music fans, the nominations represent more than individual achievements — they symbolize another major victory for Afrobeats and the continued global rise of African music culture.
