Three Suspects Caught With Counterfeit Currencies Worth ₦129 Billion

In a daring intelligence-driven operation, the Nigerian Police uncovered a sophisticated counterfeiting ring in Lagos State.

Spearheaded by the Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, the crackdown resulted in the arrest of four suspects: a 35-year-old printer, a couple aged 50 and 46, and a 62-year-old ex-soldier.

The operation began with the arrest of the printer, who was apprehended alongside a high-tech machine allegedly used to replicate counterfeit security threads. Authorities seized forged currencies totaling ₦9 million and 300 million CFA francs.

During interrogation, the printer admitted to masterminding the illegal enterprise for over three years and divulged critical details that led to the capture of his accomplices.

The investigation deepened as the arrested couple, described as pivotal members of the syndicate, implicated the ex-soldier. A raid on his residence revealed additional counterfeit currencies, solidifying his role in the operation.

Police are now ramping up efforts to dismantle the entire network, with several suspects still at large.

This incident underscores the effectiveness of collaborative policing efforts and the critical need for vigilance in curbing financial crimes that undermine economic stability.
