Nigerian powerhouse filmmaker Kemi Adetiba has unveiled the teaser trailer for her latest cinematic endeavor: To Kill a Monkey.
In a thunderous return to the director’s chair, the mind behind The Wedding Party and the politically charged King of Boys saga, Adetiba has come with a Netflix-bound crime drama poised to make waves online.
Written, directed, and co-produced by Adetiba, To Kill a Monkey dives deep into Nigeria’s modern-day digital underworld through the eyes of Efemini—an ordinary man drawn into the dark art of cybercrime after a chance encounter with an old flame. As his conscience deteriorates under the weight of fast money, shifting loyalties, and escalating consequences, Efemini is forced to answer the ultimate question: how far will he go to survive?
The series brings together an electric cast of Nollywood veterans and scene-stealers, including Stella Damasus, Ireti Doyle, Bimbo Akintola, Chidi Mokeme, and Michael Ejoor. Also turning heads is the onscreen duo Lilian Afegbai and Bucci Franklin, who portray a couple navigating love amid a crumbling moral landscape.
Production wrapped in October 2023, following a fast-paced, high-stakes shoot. Earlier behind-the-scenes footage teased Adetiba’s signature cinematic flair—tight scripting, bold camera work, and an unapologetic tone that refuses to sugar-coat. The teaser trailer, now live, offers just a glimpse of the raw intensity expected from the full release, which is projected for mid‑2025.
This marks Adetiba’s third major project with Netflix, reinforcing her growing reputation as a trailblazer of Nigerian noir. Executive Producer Remi Adetiba teased the scale of ambition behind the project, boldly stating: “If we execute at even 70% of what we have in mind, it’s gonna make the second KOB look like a stage play.”
Acquired as one of seven Nigerian originals by Netflix in 2023, To Kill a Monkey isn’t just a crime story—it’s a statement: a pulse-quickening examination of ambition, betrayal, and survival in the digital age. With its high production value, layered characters, and biting social commentary, this series is already shaping up to be Nollywood’s next big global export.
Brace yourself. The monkey isn’t just hard to kill—it’s part of you.
