Tyler Perry Hit With $260M Lawsuit By ‘The Oval’ Star

Hollywood’s carefully polished image has taken another hit—and this time, it’s one of its most powerful creators under fire.

Acclaimed filmmaker and media titan Tyler Perry is now at the center of a legal storm, accused of sexual harassment, assault, and professional retaliation by The Oval actor Derek Dixon, who has slapped him with a staggering $260 million lawsuit.

Filed on June 13, 2025, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the suit could become one of the most high-profile and financially significant legal challenges of the post-#MeToo era. Perry’s legal team has responded swiftly, labeling the claims a “fabricated scam” and vowing to dismantle the case in court.

The Allegations: From Casting Couch to Courtroom

The Rise

According to Dixon, he met Perry at the 2019 launch of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. That encounter, he claims, led to roles in Ruthless and The Oval, but it came at a cost. He alleges Perry began a pattern of inappropriate messages and physical advances, using his power as a producer and show runner to blur the lines between opportunity and exploitation.

Crossing the Line

The actor describes multiple incidents from 2020 through 2021, including being groped, sexually propositioned, and assaulted—first at Perry’s Atlanta home, then during a cast trip to the Bahamas, and again at a guesthouse on Perry’s property. Dixon says he was made to feel that his role, career future, and income were contingent on compliance.

“Every moment of silence was bought by fear,” Dixon reportedly told attorneys, citing emotional trauma, depression, and PTSD that developed as a result of the alleged abuse.

The Price of Resistance

As his resistance grew, Dixon claims Perry retaliated—first with passive threats, then by reducing screen time and withdrawing promised deals, including a TV pilot. He estimates he lost over $400,000 in earnings after being sidelined from The Oval’s later seasons.

Tyler Perry’s Response: “It’s All a Lie”

Perry’s legal counsel, Matthew Boyd, issued a sharp rebuttal, calling the accusations “completely unfounded and false.” He insisted that the lawsuit was built on fiction, not fact, and framed it as an attempt to extort a high-profile public figure.

“This is a baseless and opportunistic attack on a respected creator and entrepreneur,” Boyd stated. “We will pursue all legal avenues to expose this lie.”

Why This Case Could Shake Hollywood

Issue Impact
Consent & Coercion The core of the lawsuit hinges on the misuse of authority in casting and employment.
Monetary Weight At $260 million, it’s one of the largest individual civil claims in modern Hollywood.
Cultural Consequence Perry, a symbol of Black excellence and creative control, now faces scrutiny of how that power is wielded.
