A fresh media storm has erupted in the United States after former President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump called for the removal of comedian Jimmy Kimmel from television, following a controversial joke aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
The backlash stems from a recent monologue in which Kimmel, during a satirical segment tied to a White House Correspondents’ Dinner spoof, made a remark about Melania Trump describing her as having “a glow like an expectant widow.” The comment quickly spread online, igniting criticism and political pushback.
Melania Trump publicly condemned the joke, calling it inappropriate and urging ABC and its parent company Disney to take action against the host. Donald Trump escalated the situation further on social media, insisting Kimmel should be “immediately fired,” arguing that the remark crossed a line of decency and was especially troubling given the sensitivity of the political climate.
Kimmel, however, has stood by the segment, framing it as political satire and emphasizing that the intent was comedic, not malicious. He maintains that late-night comedy often relies on exaggeration and irony aimed at public figures.
The incident has reignited a familiar debate in American media circles over where satire ends and offense begins, particularly when political figures become direct targets of comedy.
While ABC has yet to announce any disciplinary action, the controversy has once again placed Kimmel at the center of America’s ongoing clash between politics, entertainment, and free expression.
