The Nigerian film industry has been plunged into grief following the death of veteran actor and filmmaker Solomon Akiyesi, a respected figure whose work helped shape modern Nollywood storytelling.
Akiyesi reportedly passed away in Abuja after a brief illness, with the Actors Guild of Nigeria confirming that he died in his sleep. According to reports, he had complained of chest discomfort the night before his death and received medical attention before returning home, where he later died peacefully.
News of his passing has triggered an outpouring of tributes from across the entertainment industry, with colleagues describing him as a committed performer whose versatility and professionalism set him apart on screen and behind the scenes.
Originally from Edo State, Akiyesi built a prolific career spanning decades, appearing in over 100 films. He earned recognition not only as an actor but also as a producer and storyteller with a deep passion for Nollywood’s growth. His film credits include Desperate Ladies, Heart of a Saint, as well as recent projects like Gen Z Wife (2024) and Accidentally Us (2025).
Beyond acting, he also played active roles in industry development, contributing to guild activities and supporting emerging talents within the sector.
