Afrobeats powerhouse Burna Boy and Colombian pop sensation Shakira are set to command the global stage after being unveiled as the lead voices behind the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The duo’s collaboration, titled “Dai Dai,” was teased in a colourful FIFA-backed preview ahead of its official release on May 14, immediately igniting excitement across both the music and football worlds. The track is expected to headline the tournament’s soundtrack as anticipation builds for the global football showpiece jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The teaser video, reportedly shot at the legendary Maracanã Stadium, captures Shakira delivering high-energy choreography alongside dancers representing nations from around the world, while Burna Boy layers in his signature Afrobeats sound, giving the production a distinctly global fusion.
For Shakira, the project marks a return to familiar territory, reviving memories of her historic “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” anthem from the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, a song that became one of the most recognisable football soundtracks in history.
Early reactions from fans across social media have been overwhelmingly positive, with many applauding FIFA’s decision to merge Latin pop and Afrobeats, two of the world’s most influential music cultures, into a single World Cup anthem.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19 across 16 cities in North America and will be the first edition to feature an expanded 48-team format, marking a new era in the tournament’s global evolution.
